Some 25 per cent of Galway homes fall into the poorest energy ratings - the E, F and G categories - resulting in draughty, cold houses with increased electricity and gas costs. By contrast only nine per cent reach the A and B ratings.

People of Mayo asked to make their mark

The Central Statistics Office this week officially launched Census 2016. The census will take place on Sunday, April 24, giving the people of Ireland the chance to make their mark on the future. Everybody who spends the night of Sunday April 24 in Ireland must be included on a census form.

Burglaries in Mayo down 32 per cent since 2008

Mayo recorded the larges drop in burglaries in the country between 2008 and 2015 it was revealed. In the seven year period the number of burglaries in the county dropped from 468 to 306 according to the Central Statistics Office, the Chief Superintendent of the Mayo Division told the elected members of Mayo County Council at their February meeting.

268 enumerators are to be employed in Galway for the duration of next April’s Census collection, it has been confirmed by the Central Statistics Office.
